OUR NEXT GENERAL MEETING!
TUESDAY, November 11th--- 6:30 - 9 P.M. Click here for the PDF version of latest newsletter.
Austin's Calligraphy Guild, Capital
City Scribes, is a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing in the
appreciation of, and providing education in the art of calligraphy.
Fostering both community and personal growth through the art of
beautiful writing,
CCS is open to all who believe in its purpose.
Capital City Scribes started out as a search for a bottle of ink.
Thelma Matthews carried ink at the University of Texas CO-Op East Book
Store and in October of 1982, Thelma invited all the calligraphers she
knew to attend an informal gathering at the bookstore. It was at that
meeting and three follow-up meetings that Paula Webb, Thelma, Jeff
Jeffreys, Nicholas Yeager & others began formulating the guild's
purpose. The guild was established on January 11, 1983, with
twenty-nine in attendance, at the Hancock Recreation Center.
Calligraphers acquainted themselves with each other, then elected a
president and five other Executive Board members. Anne Boykin's design,
which combined a quill and a bottle shaped as the capitol dome, was
selected as the guild's logo. By the end of the first year, when
officers were elected for the next year, the guild had become a
well-established group of letter-lovers. For a more detailed history
email us and we will furnish you with more information. Thank you for
your interest!
